McNaughton's Landscaping team undertook the complete garden build for this property in Royal Tunbridge Wells in 2017. The garden was designed by Garden Designer Jennette Emery-Wallis of Tunbridge Wells, and built by McNaughton's.

The aim for the garden was to keep the shape and structure of the garden much the same but in a modern and clean way with striking lines and practical spaces.

The build was essentially four aspects;

Raised driveway - This allowed access from the road to a private parking space. A combination of a downward gradient and a retaining wall with steps was used to tackle the challenge of the height difference between porch and road.

Lawn and retaining walls - A retaining wall was constructed along two sizes of the lawn to bridge the difference between the height of the raised bed and the lawn level. A gravel path was constructed around the exterior edge of the lawn for practical all year access to the bed and as an aesthetically pleasing frame for the lawn.

Central steps and pathway - For everyday access to the property a set of sandstone steps were constructed from the gateway down to the front porch. These were designed in a modern fashion with a more striking presence.

Breakfast patio - This area was constructed just outside the kitchen for a practical and pleasant private area for dining and entertaining, a great use of space and in arms reach of the kitchen!

The garden is constructed of concrete retaining walls, caped with 5cm thick grey Indian sandstone coping and faced with through coloured render. The paths are a grey Indian sandstone paving to match the coping, this ties in with the breakfast patio at the side of the property which is paved in the same sandstone and laid in a linear pattern. The landscaping team used a dark grey cement based pointing which as directed by the client The drive is a 'silver grey’ resin bonded surface with a reinforced concrete base and the gravel is crushed granite in the 5-10mm variety. The porch standing is made from natural clay, incorporating classic Victorian style black and white tiles. Air dried oak sleepers where used in various areas for retaining and edging which add a timeless texture to the garden, over time they acquire a silver/grey hue which nicely ties in with the theme.

The project was a delight to work on and the outcome will be enjoyed for many years to come.
